Our Keynote Speaker
Sarrah Lal has been an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University since 2018, where she co-founded the MGD Health Innovation, Commercialization & Entrepreneurship initiative. She is Director of Health Venture Development and leads “stackable” innovation and entrepreneurship programs including Health Ventures and Clinical Health Innovation Program. Sarrah co-leads the Department of Medicine’s Education & Innovation and MED-X Communities of Practice as well as the Bridging Leaders Program for faculty members. She sits on the University Senate and Board of Governors. Her research focuses on adaptive learning systems, serious games, entrepreneurial leadership, professional identity formation, and complexity thinking as it pertains to innovation ecosystems. Sarrah has worked in radio-pharmaceutical and vaccine R&D, business and market intelligence, data analytics, and consulting across several sectors. Her academic background is in chemical biology, business, clinical research, and biomedical engineering. She runs her own consulting business and is President and Chair of the Governance Board for Head Injury Rehabilitation Ontario and Vice-Chair, Canadian College of Health Leaders Hamilton & Area Chapter.

James Van Loon is Health Canada’s Chief Data Officer and also serves as the department’s Chief Scientific Data Officer. He has a passion for innovating programs and delivery from the ground up in cooperation with partners across government, nationally, and internationally. Most recently, James led efforts of Health Canada, the Public Health Agency, Public Services and Procurement Canada, Statistics Canada and other partners to create a dynamic model of pan-Canadian supply and demand on Personal Protective Equipment. As a Director General on the COVID-19 Task Force, James was instrumental in leading the development of analytic tools for the Critical Drug Reserve, as well as the Testing and Vaccine Secretariats. With over 20 years of experience in developing and managing federal regulatory programs, James is recognized as an action-oriented leader who has advanced key files at Health Canada and Environment Canada.

Adrian Stanley is an experienced and visionary executive with a demonstrated history working in the scholarly communications, health research and tech start-up arena. Currently he is the General Manager for the JMIR Publications, A Toronto based Open Access publisher, with over 30 leading Digital Health focused journals , in addition to serving as a Board member of STEM Fellowship Board of Directors. Previously, Adrian was the Managing Director of Digital Science as well as the past president of the Society for Scholarly Publishing, he has lived and worked on 4 continents.

Dr. Sacha Noukhovitch is a Founder and President of the STEM Fellowship. He is a recipient of the Prime Minister Award for Teaching Excellence in STEM. He is also an Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Science Publishing Open Access peer-reviewed STEM Fellowship Journal as well as a practicing educator piloting data science education at Earl Haig Secondary School, Toronto. Sacha is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers, sits on the marketing committee of the USA Council of Science Editors, LEAD Canada/LEAD International fellow and the STEM-stream Editor of the International Journal on Innovations in Online Education.
Reguina Ekaterinoslavskaia
Reguina Ekaterinoslavskaia is a QA lead at the North American office of Orion Health, a global, award-winning provider of health information technology. She has worked on various initiatives for the ministries of health across Canada, including Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Her line of work is ensuring stability and quality of software that integrates all forms of personal and health data and presents it to clinical and patient users in real time and appropriate format. She is focused on supporting healthcare organizations and empowering clinicians, caregivers and patients with the right information that allows them to make better decisions about patient care. Reguina is an experienced leader and mentor in her field.

Michael Duong is an experienced professional and senior leader in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He has held roles in scientific research and development, pharmaceutical consulting, and health economics and outcomes research. He is currently the Head of Innovation at Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Canada, responsible for the innovation strategy across Roche Canada and all of its divisions, and leading the Roche Innovation Hive – the creative space where the future of healthcare is being imagined and co-created between Roche and external partners, leveraging a unique combination of long-term visionary thinking, innovation skills and capabilities as well as experimentation and iterative learning.
Anish Verma

Anish Verma is a leader driven to make impact through emerging technologies like Quantum Computing, and by equitably empowering students across Canada with the power of Data Science. Anish pursued a B.Sc. honours degree in Chemical Physics at Simon Fraser University and an M.Sc. in Physics jointly between the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. As STEM Fellowship’s co-CEO, he oversees the national charity’s programs, providing equitable opportunities for scientific research, academic publishing, and science communication. In addition to this, Anish is a Quantitative Analyst and Quantum Researcher at 1QBit – a leading Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence company.
